Public engagement is central to the way the Pebblebed Heaths National Nature Reserve is managed, and the 2020 National lockdowns were a considerable challenge. I worked with the Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Trust to find out how people engaged with this extensive area of common land through photography - not just pictures of its abundance wildlife or stunning views, but the details and moods which are personally meaningful. We received over three hundred photos, which we whittled down to just eight. I made films about each photo, the photographer and the meaning behind the image. I gathered these together in a short film which closed the official launch of the heaths as Devon's tenth NNR.
