Hidden Corners was the culmination of two months photographing the East Devon Pebblebed Heaths in the long evenings of June and July 2020. I was interested in developing a personal relationship with this network of commons and was brought back to childhood explorations and leaps of imagination inspired by places with a slightly sinister, slightly magical feeling to them.
The series formed the basis of a photography trail on East Budleigh Common in July 2020, with the support of the Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Trust. I wanted participants to experience the same spirit of discovery and fantasy as I had, and the trail itself was as much a reflection of this as the selection of six images. Hidden Corners was advertised on the heaths, through social media, press and email, and was well-received. Participants discovered hidden corners for themselves as they went around the 2 mile circuit - especially those few who found themselves slightly lost.
